Richard Jones Awarded Outstanding Professional Engineer of 2013
Mr. Richard Jones, P.E., a Senior Project Manager with Royal Consulting Services, Inc., was presented the Outstanding Professional Engineer Award of 2013 by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (Florida Section) at the recent ASABE Annual Conference.
Mr. Richard Jones, graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelors in Agricultural Engineering in 1973. He is both a registered Professional Engineer and Certified General Contractor. He specializes in agricultural engineering and irrigation design and has over 38 years of experience in the design, permitting, and construction management of large and small agricultural operations. Mr. Jones has lead engineering projects all over the world, including the US, Africa, Honduras, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.
As the owner and president of R.A. Jones, Inc. from 1974 to 2003, Mr. Jones specialized in supplying turnkey irrigation, water distribution, and pumping systems to agricultural customers. The customers included fruit orchards, plant nurseries, vegetable farms, sugar cane farms, sod farms and dairies. As a Valmont Industries dealer from 1988 through 2003, Mr. Jones designed, assembled and serviced many different types of mechanical irrigation systems including pivots, hose drag linears, ditch feed linears, and hose-pull traveling guns.
In 2003, Mr. Jones joined Royal Consulting Services, Inc. as a Senior Project Manager. His specialties within RCS are the design, construction, operation, and site certification of large, complex agricultural operations, including irrigation systems, surface water control structures and pump stations, groundwater wells, water treatment systems, reuse systems, and animal waste management. Mr. Jones specializes in procuring funding from state and government agencies for the implementation of innovative conservation practices to ensure responsible stewardship of the land for future generations. Mr. Jones is also a Technical Service Provider with the NRCS.
Mr. Jones currently resides in Homestead, Florida with his wife Dee. Together they have one adult son, Alex. Mr. Jones is active in his church and several professional organizations. He often serves as a mentor for junior staff and his co-workers describe him as “knowledgeable, leader, kind, dependable, and a great problem solver.”
