USDA Designates 5 Counties in Florida as Primary Natural Disaster Areas
Southeast Ag Net
On November 14, 2012, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that 5 counties in Florida are being designated as primary natural disaster areas due to the damages and losses caused by Tropical Storm Isaac, which hit Florida from August 25th to the 28th, 2012. The counties included in this designation are Highlands, Martin, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie.
This designation will allow farmers and ranchers in the 5 counties to qualify for special assistance from the USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA). Special assistance includes low interest emergency loans through the FSA, the Emergency Conservation program, the Federal Crop Insurance program, the Non-insured Crop Disaster Assistance program, and many more programs tailored to certain sectors of the agricultural industry.
For more information on the assistance available and how to apply, please visit your local FSA office or the following website: http://www.fsa.usda.gov/FSA/webapp?area=home&subject=diap&topic=landing
